DNR seeks angler support for cobia research

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources is seeking help from anglers targeting cobia to collect DNA samples of fish caught in 2013 for ongoing research projects. These DNA samples will be used to identify hatchery released cobia and characterize the population structure of cobia captured along our coast.

Oyster, clam season to open Oct. 1
The 2012-2013 season for harvesting clams and oysters in coastal waters of South Carolina will open one-half hour before official sunrise on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012. Oyster and clam seasons will remain open through May 15, 2013, unless conditions warrant extending or shortening the season. Season dates apply to both recreational and commercial shellfish harvesting.

Anglers can help contribute to the collection of Red Snapper data
.

l
For SC anglers, this is a chance to contribute towards the management of the red snapper fishery in the South Atlantic. Because there is a desperate need for these samples, the SC Department of Natural Resources is encouraging anglers who catch any red snapper during this period to please participate in this data collection effort.
